WE KNOW
ORGANIZING WORKS
We know people know best what works in their own communities. We know each one of us is someone’s trusted messenger. We know low-touch digital communications can only get us so far. We know transactional campaigns aren’t building durable power.
Organizing Exchange is born to gather the experience and expertise of seasoned organizers and scale the discipline of organizing across our movements.
We hope to train those who are just discovering the promise of organizing and create a home for more seasoned organizers to troubleshoot, learn from each other, experiment with tactics, and find community.
We believe we must rekindle our capacity to talk to one another, build relationships, create community, and come together to shape our communities. We believe we must reach out, across, and beyond the silos we are stuck in. And we believe the practice and discipline of organizing can help us do this.
In fact, it’s an indispensable part of envisioning and winning a fair and fast energy transition that meets the interconnected social, economic, democratic, and climate crises of our times
JOBS.
WHAT IS ORGANIZING EXCHANGE?
Organizing Exchange’s mission is to revitalize organizing power towards a clean and just energy transition in Canada through training and capacity-building initiatives aimed at aligning efforts, establishing values-aligned partnerships, and building power for economic and environmental justice.
OrgX’s mission is to revitalize and disseminate the practice of organizing. By bringing together top trainers, creative lessons and tactics, along with rich stories of past victories and failures, OrgX will support groups to build the power they need to win a just future, free from fossil fuels.
Why is Orgx launching?
Organizing Exchange is a pilot project incubated within New Majority. New Majority has a track record of incubating successful projects and organizations and has also witnessed firsthand the pressing need for such training. OrgX is advised by a team of seasoned organizers from across the country, who are ensuring that its vision responds to real needs faced by organizations. To ensure its long-term success and that our materials are particularly suited to engage hundreds of sector leaders particularly from smaller and local organizations who are lacking in organizing capacity or looking to expand their work to help a clean and just energy transition.
Organizations Welcome To Participate
While the training programs are open to staff working in the climate movement, if you work for an organization outside of the climate movement, but still work towards healthy, safe, equitable and just communities, you are welcome to apply to participate in these offerings. Organizing Exchange is dedicated to building connections between movements.
Organizing Exchange is an exciting new project incubated within New Majority, aimed at catapulting the climate movement in Canada to the next level and making connections towards coalition building.
-
Organizing Exchange aims to provide general training on organizing with intentionally broad scope, allowing different groups to find frameworks that apply to their context and theories of change.
-
This in-person, two-day training offers rapid exposure to all crucial pieces of the organizing toolkit, from X to Y and Z. It integrates deep relational tactics, including excelling at one-one-ones, with the potential of digital tools to scale organizing efforts.
-
This track targets organizers actively involved in building organizing programs or testing tactics, seeking support to troubleshoot, problem-solve, innovate, test, and learn alongside other peer organizers. It includes deep dives into specific topics, peer coaching, and one-on-one support from long-time organizers.
In this first pilot year, our goal is to expand the capacity of organizers across the country, moving further, together with skilled facilitation and international expertise that fosters collaboration in organizing and power building, as well as integrated relational and digital organizing.
Organizing Exchange Team members
The pilot phase of Organizing Exchange is shaped by our Steering Committee along with a broad advisory group of experienced organizers from across the country, to be announced soon.
